Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my handicap a very low or negative number?

This is most likely a configuration issue on the course you've entered. Please check you have the correct rating and slope entered. The course rating is a decimal number usually close to the value of par. The course slope is an integer number usually above 113. After updating the course data, you will need to re-enter the rounds that were entered against that course.

Why is my handicap lower than my average score?

Your handicap represents your scoring potential, not your scoring average. Your lowest rounds are used in your handicap calculation. In Simple Handicap, the rounds highlighted in green are the ones actively contributing to your handicap. For more information on exactly how many rounds are used in your handicap calculation, refer to this documentation.

Entering a 9-hole round

9-hole rounds must be entered against the 9-hole par/rating/slope. Just like how par is different for 9-holes and 18-holes, the rating/slope are also different. If you use the 18-hole course data for a 9-hole round, it is likely that your handicap will be a very low or negative number.

Often times course scorecards only show the 18-hole rating/slope. A handy tool to find 9-hole course data is located here.
